Meghan Markle made her first appearance in public after the birth of her son at the Queen’s Birthday Parade on June 08, 2019. All eyes were obviously on the Duchess of Sussex at the ceremony, and eagle-eyed observers spotted a stunning diamond infinity band on her finger. The eternity band is likely a gift from Prince Harry in tribute of their one-year anniversary or the arrival of their son Archie.
In the excitement over Meghan Markle’s new present, another important story was overlooked: she appears to have reset her three diamond engagement ring. Going by photos from the ceremony, it looks like the ring has been redesigned, and as against the original yellow gold band, it now has a small micro- pavé one. It is difficult to tell whether the diamonds were also altered.
It is not clear when these alternations to the original ring were done, as Meghan chose not to wear it in the final few months of pregnancy, probably because of swollen fingers. There is also the likelihood that this is a different ring, designed for the Duchess of Sussex to wear as her body transforms after pregnancy.
Another look at photos from her son’s first photocall shows that Meghan was wearing the piece with the fresh design then too.
She is known to prefer dainty jewelry, and probably the redesign of the ring stemmed from a wish to own a set of rings: engagement ring, gold wedding band, and the latest infinity ring.
Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry worked with jewelers to custom design her ring with a center diamond, sourced from Botswana, and smaller diamonds from the collection of his late mother Princess Diana.
“The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s [Markle’s] favorite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together,” said Prince Harry during the first sit-down talk with the BBC, soon after the couple announced their engagement.
Meghan Markle was touched by how Prince Harry incorporated Princess Diana’s legacy into the jewelry piece.
“Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Princess Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us,” she said.
